How do I check a virtual extension's voicemail? How do I check voicemail when I'm not at my phone?

You can check any extension's voicemail by using two different methods:

  • Dialing *101 - To check the voicemail of any extension in your account, simply dial *101 from any Vocalocity phone. The system will first prompt you for the extension number, then for that extensions voicemail PIN.

  • Pressing * when voicemail plays - When calling your own extension, press the * key, when your voicemail message starts to play. The system will then prompt you for your voicemail pin #

Can I use a regular fax machine?

You cannot use a regular fax machine with VoIP telephone systems. This is because there would be too many conversions from digital to analog signals. However, Vocalocity does offer an email to fax service. This service converts a regular voicemail attachment, and prints it out on a recipients fax machine. To receive faxes, simply give out a toll free or local fax number Vocalocity can provide you. Whenever someone fax's to this number, the fax will be converted and dropped into your email box.

Why can't I forward my calls to an outside number, such as my cell phone?

When you go to setup your "Never Miss A Call" features such as call forwarding, call groups, or follow me; you may find that you do not see any way to add an outside number. If you do not see "Add Personal Number" as an option then you simply need to assign a user to that extension.

What is an Auto Attendant? What is the difference between that and Voicemail?

  • Auto Attendants: A service which directs a call. You generally put your main company number on your Auto Attendant. They then record a message which greets callers, and then the Attendant automatically sends the call to an extension. Often, people will set the Auto Attendant up so that callers can select where the call is directed. Auto Attendants do not have voicemail.

  • Voicemail - Your voicemail box is a place where people leave you a message if you do not pick up your phone. This is the same as having voicemail on your cell phone. You can record a message for your voicemail, but this message is independent of your Auto Attendant message.

I just got my phones. How do I set them up?

If you received your phones from Vocalocity, they are usually pre-configured. You only need to plug them into your network and power them on. If the phones are not pre-configured, or did not come from us, check our provisioning guides for further information.

Can my security system work with Vocalocity?

More importantly, the security system will not send a signal to your monitoring center. You may opt to retain an analog phone line from a local provider to keep using this service.

Can my credit card machine work with Vocalocity?

You cannot use a security machine with Vocalocity. Visa & MasterCard officially state there is no acceptable VoIP solution that meets Payment Card Industry Compliance requirements. You may opt to retain an analog phone line from a local provider to keep using this service.
